Vietnam’s national women’s football team showcased an outstanding performance in a decisive match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The game unfolded in Phú Thọ Province, with Vietnam emerging victorious with a resounding 6-0 win over their opponents.
From the onset, Vietnam displayed sheer determination and skill on the field. The team’s relentless attacks kept UAE goalkeeper Maha Alblooshi on her toes, with players like Huynh Nhu and Duong Thi Van putting early pressure on the UAE defense. This aggressive playstyle set the tone for an electrifying match.
The first goal came in the 11th minute when Ngan Thi Van Su’s precise corner kick found Chuong Thi Kieu, who executed a flawless header past the UAE goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, a defensive error from UAE gifted Thai Thi Thao an opportunity to score Vietnam’s second goal with a close-range finish.
As the game progressed, Vietnam continued to dominate. In the 43rd minute, Thao delivered a perfect cross from the right flank that was expertly headed into the net by Nguyen Thi Van. The hosts didn’t let up after halftime, as Van scored her second goal of the match within six minutes of resuming play.
The scoreboard kept ticking in Vietnam’s favor when Su provided an exquisite assist to Pham Hai Yen in the 64th minute, extending their lead to 5-0. The final blow came during stoppage time when Su capitalized on a rebound to seal Vietnam’s impressive victory with a sixth goal.
Coach Mai Duc Chung expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but emphasized areas for improvement during post-match discussions:
“6-0 is what we want from this match…my players still need to improve some points including their understanding during attack coordination and their passes need to be more accurate.”
Chung also praised his young players’ efforts in their first major international tournament and vowed to provide them with more opportunities to shine in future competitions.
On the other side of the pitch, UAE coach Vera Pauw commended her team for their resilience despite facing a formidable opponent:
“Việt Nam are a good team…I am impressed with their constant switching of positions; their speed and diversity in playing style.”
Pauw highlighted how UAE women’s football underwent significant rebuilding post-COVID-19 pandemic but expressed pride in her players’ unwavering commitment till the final whistle:
“That is sport – keep believing in ourselves.”
Looking ahead, both teams have plans for further development. While Vietnam aims for a spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals next March, UAE focuses on long-term strategies such as building local talent through national championships and youth tournaments.
