In preparation for the upcoming Local Government Elections in Lagos scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has made an important announcement. The state police, led by spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed a modification to the hours of movement restriction that will be implemented during the electoral process.
Initially set to start at 3:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m., the new restrictions will now begin at 6:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. This adjustment comes as a response to concerns raised by residents with critical medical appointments, emergencies, and international travel plans.
“To alleviate the problem of residents with critical medical emergencies and appointments, and those with longtime international travel plans in and out of the country, the restriction of vehicular movement is hereby readjusted,”
stated Hundeyin in the official police statement.
The change aims to provide flexibility for individuals who may require access to medical facilities or need to travel internationally on election day. By shifting the start time of restrictions later into the morning, authorities hope to minimize disruptions while still maintaining security measures essential for a smooth electoral process.
The Local Government Elections are set to unfold across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within Lagos State. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh emphasizes the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring a secure environment conducive to conducting fair and orderly elections.
Jimoh urges citizens across Lagos to collaborate with security agencies, stay vigilant throughout the election period, and promptly report any suspicious activities through designated emergency contact lines provided by authorities.
With these adjustments in place, authorities aim not only to facilitate voting procedures but also ensure that residents’ daily routines are minimally disrupted on election day. The move highlights a balance between enforcing necessary security protocols and accommodating citizens’ essential needs during this significant electoral event in Lagos State.
