All About Me Science: Hands-On Brain & Neuron Activities for Kids

Ever wondered what makes you think, feel, and move? It’s all thanks to your amazing brain! In this “All About Me” science activity, kids will explore how the brain works and how neurons send messages around the body.

In this fun, hands-on learning experience, we’ll make a simple DIY brain model and a neuron craft that helps kids see how nerve cells connect and talk to each other. You can follow along with our easy steps and watch the YouTube video below to see the activities in action.

Why this is fun and educational for kids

  1. Helps children understand how their brain works
  2. Boosts creativity through crafts and experiment
  3. Encourages problem-solving and critical thinking

What you will need

  • Paper or cardboard
  • Markers or crayons
  • Pipe cleaners or string
  • Scissors (with adult help)
  • Glue or tape

Steps

  1. Learn about the brain – The brain is like a control center. It helps you think, learn, remember, and move.
  2.  Make a brain model – Draw and label the main parts of the brain: cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem.
  3. Build a neuron – Use pipe cleaners or string to show how messages travel from one neuron to another.
  4. Connect and play – Link your neurons together and see how signals might pass through your “nerve network.”

You can make this lesson even more exciting by adding a game where one person plays the “brain” and others act as neurons passing a “signal” (like a ball or note) to the right body part
