Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Stays Loyal Amid Defection Rumors

Amid swirling rumors of defection, Governor Biodun Oyebanji stands firm in his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing claims of a potential shift to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The Ekiti State Government swiftly refuted these allegations, labeling them as

“false and misleading.”

“This is another tissue of lies aimed at causing disunity within the APC,”

stated Olayinka Oyebode, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor. The report suggested that Dr. Kayode Fayemi was spearheading a move from APC to ADC, with Governor Oyebanji allegedly part of this group.

However, the state government clarified its position unequivocally:

“Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the mentioned public office holders remain firmly rooted in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and have no plans whatsoever to join the ADC.”

This statement aimed to put an end to speculations about a possible political realignment.

Governor Oyebanji’s longstanding allegiance to progressive ideals was highlighted by the state government. Since Nigeria’s Fourth Republic began in 1999, he has been a steadfast member of the progressive movement in Ekiti State. This unwavering dedication underscores his deep-rooted commitment to his political beliefs.

In response to attempts at sowing discord between Governor Oyebanji and President Bola Tinubu, officials emphasized President Tinubu’s astute political acumen. They dismissed any insinuations that their relationship could be strained by external manipulations or false narratives.

As preparations for the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State gain momentum, political tensions are on the rise. Desperate politicians vying for attention resort to smear campaigns and unfounded accusations against Governor Oyebanji on social media platforms.

Addressing these tactics, state authorities urged residents not to be swayed by baseless allegations orchestrated by those seeking electoral advantage through deception. They called on aspiring candidates to engage openly with party members and voters rather than resorting to underhanded tactics.

With INEC announcing key dates for primary elections and setting timelines for electoral activities, Ekiti State braces itself for a critical juncture in its political landscape. The forthcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026, will shape the future direction of governance in the state.

As stakeholders gear up for an intense electoral season marked by strategic maneuvering and spirited campaigning efforts, Governor Oyebanji remains resolute in his loyalty to APC principles. His steadfastness amidst turbulent political currents reflects a deeper commitment grounded in years of service and dedication.
