Igloo Coolers Recall Fingertip Injuries Spark Massive Product Warning

130,000 Igloo coolers are being recalled due to a dangerous flaw – the tow handle. This recall has been intensified after reports showed that 78 consumers suffered fingertip injuries from the cooler’s handle. Shockingly, 26 of these cases resulted in serious consequences like fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and cuts.

From Bad to Worse

Initially, over one million 90-quart Igloo Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers were called back in February. The reason? The tow handle was causing severe harm by crushing people’s fingertips. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that the tow handle on these coolers could pinch users’ fingertips against the cooler itself, creating a high risk for finger amputation or crushing accidents.

Escalating Concerns

In February’s recall announcement, it was revealed that Igloo had already received 12 injury reports linked to their coolers. However, this number surged dramatically following further usage – with an additional 78 cases reported since then.

Identifying the Defective Cooler

If you own an Igloo cooler with “IGLOO” printed on its side and it was manufactured before January 2024, be cautious! These defective products come in various colors and can be identified by checking the bottom of the cooler for its manufacturing date.

A Global Impact

The repercussions of this safety risk extend beyond U.S. borders. Around 20,000 coolers in Canada and another 5,900 in Mexico have also been affected by this recall wave. When totaled with those recalled earlier this year from each country, tens of thousands of units are potentially hazardous.

Ensuring Consumer Safety

For owners who purchased their coolers between January 2019 and January 2025 – take action now! Stop using your Igloo cooler immediately and reach out to the company for a replacement tow handle at no cost. Your safety is paramount to Igloo as they emphasize their commitment to product quality and customer satisfaction above all else.

Retailer Ramifications

These faulty coolers were retailed at popular stores like Academy, Costco, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target among others both online and offline within a price range of $80-$140.
