Larry David Collaborating with Obamas on American History Sketch Series

A year following the conclusion of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,

” Larry David is making a grand return to HBO. But this time, he’s not coming alone; he’s teaming up with none other than former President Barack Obama. The duo will be working on a sketch comedy series that delves into American history.

The project is being spearheaded by Higher Ground, the production company led by Barack and Michelle Obama. Both the former president and first lady are deeply involved in the series as executive producers. The premise of the show revolves around honoring America’s 250th anniversary and celebrating the unique journey of the nation throughout its history.

In a humorous twist, Larry David disrupts these well-intentioned plans. As described in the logline, “

President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion… But then Larry David called.

Reflecting on his experience working with Larry David, Barack Obama humorously remarked, “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”

The creative genius behind “

Curb Your Enthusiasm,

” Jeff Schaffer, along with Larry David himself, will be responsible for writing the series. Additionally, Schaffer is set to take on directing duties alongside producing roles shared with the Obamas and Higher Ground’s Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis.

Larry David shared his quirky journey back to television saying, “Once Curb ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party… After a violent allergic reaction to the suds… it is with a heavy heart that I return to television.”

His unique perspective promises an entertaining take on American history.

The upcoming untitled show is scheduled for six episodes possibly airing in 2026 to coincide with America’s 250th founding anniversary celebration. The series is expected to feature familiar faces from “Curb” along with some exciting guest stars adding spice to each episode.

Jeff Schaffer highlighted how their characters aim not to change history but rather embrace its obscurities stating, “The characters Larry is playing didn’t change history… they were largely ignored by history. And that’s a good thing.” Amy Gravitt from HBO expressed excitement about having Larry back onboard noting his unparalleled perspective on modern life that viewers have come to love over time.

In summary, this collaboration between comedy legend Larry David and political heavyweight Barack Obama promises a fresh take on American history infused with humor and irreverence—a project sure to captivate audiences as they explore an unconventional lens through which we can view our shared past.
