Lorraine Kellys ITV Show Major Changes and Job Cuts Looming

Lorraine Kelly, the beloved host of the morning show on ITV, is facing significant changes ahead. Just recently, it was announced that her show will be cut from an hour to just 30 minutes. This decision comes as part of a broader restructuring plan within the station that is expected to result in over 220 job cuts across various daytime programs.

Starting from January 2026, viewers can expect Good Morning Britain (GMB) to fill in the gap left by Lorraine’s shortened show. The extended version of GMB will run from 06:00 to 09:30 daily, providing audiences with an extra half-hour of morning news and entertainment. During the weeks when Lorraine is not on air, GMB will continue until 10:00.

The reduction in airtime for Lorraine means that her show will now only be broadcast for 30 weeks out of the entire year. This change is part of a strategic move by ITV to streamline its daytime programming and make more efficient use of resources.

Among the daytime shows affected by these changes are This Morning, Loose Women, and, of course, Good Morning Britain. The proposed job cuts are expected to impact approximately half of ITV’s current daytime staff – around 450 employees in total.

Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV’s media and entertainment division, emphasized the importance of these adjustments in maintaining quality journalism while also achieving necessary cost savings. According to Lygo, consolidating news operations and reallocating resources will enable ITV to uphold its reputation for trusted journalism amidst a growing demand for reliable news coverage.

At the heart of this restructuring plan lies a proposal for ITV Studios – which produces popular daytime shows like Lorraine and This Morning – to merge their editorial teams. By sharing resources and operations starting in 2026, ITV aims to optimize production efficiency without compromising on content quality.

Meanwhile, familiar faces like Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard will continue hosting This Morning in its usual timeslot from 10:00 – 12:30 on weekdays throughout the year. Loose Women will also maintain its spot from 12:30 -13:30 daily but with reduced broadcasting weeks similar to Lorraine’s schedule adjustment.

For fans who have grown accustomed to watching Lorraine since she took over the show in 2010 after her predecessors Fiona Phillips and Penny Smith left; this shift may take some getting used to. However, despite these changes looming on the horizon for British TV networks like ITV due to evolving industry landscapes fueled by online streaming giants such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video; traditional television remains resilient albeit challenged by new digital rivals.
