Exciting news for Amazon Prime members in France as they now have free access to France Télévisions’ content, thanks to a recent partnership with Prime Video. This collaboration brings a wide array of offerings from the French public service broadcaster directly to Prime Video users, including live sports coverage and on-demand content.
The deal entails the integration of France Télévisions’ linear channels such as France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, and France Info into the Prime Video platform. Additionally, subscribers will have access to france.TV’s extensive library of over 20,000 programs on demand. This means viewers can enjoy major sporting events like the Tour de France, Uefa Women’s European Championship, and the Women’s Rugby World Cup at their convenience.
Christophe Deguine, managing director of Prime Video in France expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration by stating,
“We are delighted to have concluded this agreement and to be able to make the extensive France Télévisions catalogue available to all our Prime customers in France.”
He highlighted their commitment to expanding content options for customers and solidifying Prime Video as a top destination for entertainment.
This move is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading content aggregator. The tech giant has been actively securing distribution agreements with key platforms including Max, Paramount+, Ciné+OCS, Universal+, and MGM+. By offering diverse content through partnerships like this one with France Télévisions, Amazon aims to cater to the evolving preferences of streaming audiences.
France Télévisions sees this partnership as an opportunity to reach more viewers given the increasing popularity of streaming services in the country. With most pay-TV households opting for IPTV services provided by major telecommunications companies over traditional satellite or cable subscriptions. Delphine Ernotte Cunci, president and chief executive of France Télévisions shared her excitement stating,
“We are very pleased to make france.tv accessible to all Prime Video users.”
Notably, this collaboration between Prime Video and France Télévisions follows closely on the heels of another significant agreement between FTA broadcaster TF1 and streaming giant Netflix. This strategic alliance will see Netflix carrying TF1’s linear channels and on-demand content starting next summer.
In recent years there has been a dynamic shift in how viewers consume media content globally. As traditional television gives way to digital platforms like streaming services due in large part because consumers seek flexibility in what they watch when they want—these collaborations represent efforts by companies like Amazon & Netflix not just expand their offerings but also cement themselves firmly within changing landscape.
