Remembering Robin Windsor Honoring a Strictly Stars Legacy Through Dance

A year ago, the world of dance was shaken by the untimely passing of Robin Windsor, a beloved Strictly Come Dancing star hailing from Ipswich. At just 44 years old, his departure left fans and fellow dancers mourning the loss of a vibrant talent whose passion for movement touched many hearts.

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and mental health charity Sane, organizations that held a special place in Windsor’s life as an ambassador, have come together to create an enduring tribute to his memory. The Robin Windsor Award has been established not only to celebrate his contributions to the world of dance but also to shine a light on his advocacy for mental health awareness.

“In memory of Robin Windsor”

Alexander Campbell, Artistic Director of RAD, expressed heartfelt sentiments about the late dancer: “In memory of Robin Windsor, the RAD and Sane have launched an award that honours Robin’s passion for dance and his dedication to mental health advocacy.” This initiative aims to recognize individuals whose lives have been positively impacted by dance as a transformative tool for mental well-being.

Robin believed in the healing power of movement – its ability to uplift spirits and forge connections beyond words. With this ethos at its core, the Robin Windsor Award seeks out dancers who embody that same profound spirit of resilience and hope.

Honoring A Brave Advocate

Marjorie Wallace CBE, Chief Executive of SANE, highlighted Windsor’s courageous efforts in sharing his own struggles with mental health in hopes of inspiring others on their journey: “Robin spoke bravely about his struggles, hoping to help others feel less alone.” This award stands as a testament to his legacy – a beacon of support for those navigating similar challenges through the transformative artistry found within dance.

Windsor’s journey in the world of dance began humbly at Ipswich School when he was just three years old. His path eventually led him onto the glittering stage of Strictly Come Dancing where he waltzed alongside notable figures like Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley, Alison Hammond, Sara Cox, and Susanna Reid.

Amongst these celebrated partnerships, one standout moment was winning the prestigious Children In Need special back in 2011 with presenter Susanna Reid. Additionally, he achieved a rare feat by gracing both Broadway and London’s West End stages while dazzling audiences on Strictly Come Dancing – all within a single year.

Through this award honoring Robin Windsor’s legacy lies not only celebration but also recognition – acknowledging those individuals whose lives have been deeply touched by both dance’s gracefulness and its capacity for transformation amidst personal struggles.
