A somber incident unfolded on a Wednesday in the province of Tucumán, Argentina. A man tragically lost his life, and four others sustained varying degrees of injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and plummeted down a cliff along Provincial Route 307, near Amaicha del Valle. The accident occurred in the morning hours close to Los Corpitos, where Ariel Gustavo Zerpa reportedly lost control of a black Ford S10 carrying Diego Martín Zerpa, Adrián Armando Zerpa, Martín Ariel Zerpa, and Lorenzo Gutiérrez – all residents of San José in Catamarca province.
As the vehicle plunged about 15 meters, Gutiérrez was ejected from the truck and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Fortunately, three occupants managed to exit the vehicle unaided while one required assistance from volunteer firefighters from Amaicha del Valle and Santa María. The survivors were rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention due to their sustained injuries.
Authorities including Forensic experts, police medical personnel, and officers from the local police station swiftly responded to the accident site. The case fell under the jurisdiction of Prosecutor Ariel Zurita’s team who mandated conducting necessary investigations and seizing the vehicle for analysis to determine the cause of this tragic event.
In a separate but equally alarming incident last month, an extensive chain collision involving at least 10 vehicles occurred on Highway 38 on the outskirts of San Miguel de Tucumán near Los Aguirre towards Famaillá. The primary cause behind this massive accident which left 13 individuals injured was attributed to poor visibility resulting from grassland fires in proximity to that area.
Eyewitnesses captured videos depicting the chaotic scene unfolding amid multiple collisions caused by reduced visibility due to burning pastures. This led to an urgent closure of southbound traffic along with an elaborate emergency response operation involving firefighters, medical personnel, and law enforcement agents working collaboratively to aid victims and clear up the roadway.
