Collard notes. One particularly alarming tactic involves using simulated child voices to extort money from parents under the guise of kidnapping scenarios—showcasing the psychological manipulation capabilities now at play on a large scale.

By exploiting cultural familiarity and employing tactics like audio deepfakes to mimic victims’ voices accurately, this group exemplifies how trust, timing, and manipulation have become integral components of modern cyber threats.
The integration of AI into social engineering tactics has streamlined the process significantly. Tasks that once required skilled con artists weeks to execute can now be accomplished almost instantly through automated means.
